Hyundai's America's Best Warranty is made up of several warranties, each with its own terms. Some apply to every owner, some only to the original owner, and some cover specific parts for shorter periods.
This guide answers common questions about each one. For the complete terms, visit our Hyundai Warranty page.
How Long Is Hyundai's Warranty?
Every new Hyundai comes with four core coverages:
-
Powertrain Limited Warranty: 10 years or 100,000 miles
-
New Vehicle Limited Warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles
-
Anti-Perforation Warranty: 7 years, unlimited miles
-
24-Hour Roadside Assistance: 5 years, unlimited miles
Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric models add 10-year/100,000-mile coverage for the battery and hybrid system components. Coverage starts on the date of original retail delivery or the date the vehicle is first put into use.
Hyundai's powertrain warranty runs five years and 40,000 miles longer than the 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage from Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. Its New Vehicle Limited Warranty also outlasts the 3-year/36,000-mile coverage those brands offer. Hyundai bases the "America's Best Warranty" name on its total package of warranty programs.
What Does Hyundai's Powertrain Warranty Cover?
The Powertrain Limited Warranty covers engine and transmission components with defects in materials or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance. That includes the cylinder block and heads and their internal parts, the turbocharger, the oil and water pumps, the transmission case and its internal parts, axle shafts, the transfer case, and the rear differential.
The full 10-year/100,000-mile term applies to the original owner only. Vehicles in commercial use, such as taxis, rentals, and delivery vehicles, aren't eligible.
What Does Hyundai's New Vehicle Warranty Cover?
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers any component Hyundai manufactured or originally installed that has the same kinds of defects. It also covers towing to the nearest Hyundai dealership if a covered defect leaves your vehicle inoperable. Most parts are covered for the full 5 years or 60,000 miles, but some have shorter limits:
-
Paint: 3 years or 36,000 miles
-
12-volt battery: 3 years or 36,000 miles
-
Air conditioning refrigerant charge: 1 year, unlimited miles
-
Adjustments: 1 year or 12,000 miles
What Isn’t Covered by Hyundai's Warranty?
Hyundai's warranties cover manufacturing defects. They don't cover:
-
Routine maintenance, such as oil changes, filters, wheel alignment, and tire rotation
-
Normal wear, such as worn brake pads, wiper blades, spark plugs, and fuses
-
Damage from accidents, misuse, flooding, fire, or theft
-
Environmental damage, such as road salt, hail, tree sap, or stone chips
-
Damage caused by non-Hyundai parts, modifications, or improper repairs
-
Tires, which are covered by the tire manufacturer's warranty
Skipping scheduled maintenance can also void coverage on the parts affected. Hyundai requires owners to follow the maintenance schedule in the Owner's Manual, so keep your service receipts. Warranty repairs must be performed at an authorized Hyundai dealership.
Is Hyundai's Warranty Transferable?
Most of it does. The New Vehicle Limited, Anti-Perforation, emissions, and replacement parts warranties all transfer to later owners. The 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty doesn't. Second and later owners get powertrain coverage under the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty instead.
There are two exceptions. The full powertrain warranty can stay in effect if the original owner transfers the vehicle to a spouse, and it stays in effect if a lessee buys the vehicle at the end of the lease.
Does Hyundai Cover Hybrid and EV Batteries?
Hyundai covers the high-voltage battery and the components directly tied to it on its hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles for 10 years or 100,000 miles. That includes the battery management system, hybrid starter and generator, traction motor, hybrid power control unit, and onboard charger. This coverage stays in place for subsequent owners.
What Does Hyundai Roadside Assistance Include?
Hyundai's 24-Hour Roadside Assistance lasts 5 years with unlimited miles and is available in all 50 states and Canada. Services include towing to the nearest Hyundai dealership, jump starts, flat tire changes on vehicles with a spare, lockout service, and gas delivery.
